Many
of you will have ridden parts of the RUPP called the Ridge Way at the foot of
the Chiltern Hills, its good motorcycling land, not quite up to Welsh standards,
but never the less, up to 550ft of elevation, plenty of large forest areas
together with "set a side" land and good road communications. Not bad
considering we are only 25 miles as the crow flies from the centre of
London.
This certainly is an area of outstanding natural beauty and yet
is often overlooked by us motorcyclists and outdoor types as just being too
inhabited and too close to London to find suitable venues. How wrong we are.
There are a number of sites out there and plenty of potential sites, mainly due
to the large amount of private ownership of the forests. These are regularly
used for sporting game shooting, in particular pheasant and partridge, which
leaves these areas almost unused for 8 months of the year.
C.H.E.C
is a small off road motorcycle club dedicated to running Enduro and Hare &
Hound style events, using the area called the Chiltern Valley. This broad area
runs from Oxford in the West, going South to Marlow, High Wycombe and Lane End,
across to Wendover and back to Oxford.
Chiltern Hills Enduro Club
Chiltern
Hills Enduro Club.
The
club mainly puts on Hare & Hound style events as these suit the club and its
riders. Fun 3 hour and 4 hour events, often with a break in the middle for lunch
and then back the opposite direction for the remainder of the time. It certainly
puts a smile on every ones face. The lunch break allows the novice rider to
rejoin after the regulatory mars bar and hamburger, oh don’t forget the coffee (
we are dedicated competitors you know ) and lets the more expert fettle his bike
for the next 2 hours of racing. Solos and quads it doesn’t matter, young, old,
female or male, we have them all. Mainly 30’s to 50’s and mainly solos, mainly
sportsman or clubman standard, the name of the game is to enjoy your day, be
safe, and not be hassled by the MotoX red mist rider ( deeply frowned on by the
organizers who have been known to have a quiet word with a slightly over
enthusiastic rider ). Fun and enjoyable racing together with up to 4 hours
competition time all for £ 45.00 is excellent value as well.
